Yes, cathedrals are still being built today, although at a much slower pace compared to the medieval period when many of the famous cathedrals were constructed. There are several reasons why we don't build cathedrals anymore. Firstly, the construction of cathedrals was a massive undertaking that required significant resources, including skilled labor and materials, which may not be as readily available today. Additionally, the purpose of cathedrals as religious and cultural centers has evolved over time, and modern architectural styles and building practices have shifted away from the grandeur and scale of traditional cathedrals. Lastly, the cost and maintenance of such large, ornate structures may not be feasible in today's economic and social climate. **

Gothic cathedrals are large, ornate religious buildings constructed during the medieval period, characterized by their pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses. They were built primarily as places of worship and to showcase the power and wealth of the church. In contrast, modern skyscrapers are tall, sleek buildings constructed with steel and glass, designed for commercial and residential use. They are typically located in urban centers and serve as symbols of economic power and technological advancement. While both Gothic cathedrals and modern skyscrapers are impressive architectural feats, they serve different purposes and reflect the values and priorities of the societies in which they were built. **

Cathedrals of a size like the Cologne Cathedral can still be found today, although they are rare. The construction of such massive structures requires significant resources, time, and skilled labor, making them less common in modern times. However, there are still examples of large cathedrals being built, such as the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City, which is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and has been under construction for over a century. While the construction of such monumental buildings may be less frequent, they continue to be a testament to the enduring tradition of grand religious architecture. **
